On March 21, members of the Chicago Sinfonietta visited Jefferson Middle School to present on West African Drumming in the Jefferson Band Room for band, orchestra, and choir students. The presentation featured Mr. Jeff Handley, the Chicago Sinfonietta’s principal percussionist, and was made possible by a JCS (Job Corps Scholars) Grant through the DuPage Foundation.
The presentation included three talented percussionists and a professional dancer. Students learned about music from the region as well as history, art, and wildlife. As part of the presentation, several Wildcats got to try some dance moves and play on the percussion instruments. What an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about world music from experts in the field!
