On February 17, the Jackson Middle School girls volleyball team visited students at the D45 Early Childhood Center for fun and community service.
Led by Gregg Huckstadt, volleyball coach and athletic director at Jackson Middle School, the team joined our early learners to participate in their daily activities, including exercising in the gross motor gym and completing hands-on classroom learning activities.
Through the service project, Huckstadt hoped to enhance the team’s personal growth and development by having members practice social skills while fostering self-esteem and empathy.
“It’s really important for student-athletes to learn the importance of giving back and to be part of something bigger than themselves,” said Huckstadt. “Teaching young people to be active within their community will lead to a positive impact at any scale.”
After the experience, team members expressed how fun working and making friends with our early learners was.
“I made a new bestie,” said one student-athlete.
