The District 45 Board of Education is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Board resulting from the resignation of former Board Member Emily Shultz.
In accordance with School Board Policy 2:70, the Board intends to fill the vacancy within 60 calendar days, following a public vote at a Board of Education Meeting. The appointed School Board member will serve on the Board of Education until the next consolidated election in April, 2027.

Application Process
Qualified and interested residents should submit a resume and a letter explaining their interest in serving on the District 45 Board of Education no later than 4:00 p.m. on July 1, 2026. In addition, candidates must show familiarity with the Board’s policies and the District 45 mission: Empowering all learners to cultivate hope, build confidence, and realize their full potential.
Per School Board Policy 2:40, a School Board member must be, on the date of election or appointment, a United States citizen, at least 18 years of age, a resident of Illinois and District 45 for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment, and must be a registered voter.
Reasons making an individual ineligible for Board membership include holding an incompatible office, being a child sex offender, as defined in State law, having a prohibited interest in any contract with the District, and certain types of prohibited State or federal employment (e.g., an employee of District 45).
