On November 7, District 45’s English Language Learners (ELL) Bilingual Services Department hosted a Newcomer Welcome Dinner for families new to the United States and District 45. The first-ever dinner hosted by the District was attended by 12 newcomer families representing 23 new PreK-8 students in D45. Learn more and see photos.
A delicious meal included food items representing various countries and cultures. District staff were on hand to greet families, provide childcare, and even help families sign up for Family-Teacher Conferences. At this dinner, our families represented Ecuador, Mexico, Colombia, Iraq, Sudan, Honduras, Pakistan, Poland, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
Thank you to our teachers, staff, and BPAC parent leaders who volunteered to make the dinner special — and to Director of ELL/Bilingual Services Lisa Speakman, Beth Slusher, Director of Digital Learning and Innovation, and Parent Liaison Leticia Carmona, who helped plan this successful event!
