On Dec. 19, the Schafer STARS program held a holiday party and service project to help others in need. Students and staff collected donated items and sorted them for “Phil’s Friends,” an organization that provides care packages for cancer patients.
To prepare the donation, students filled bags with essentials, including hats, fuzzy socks, books, decks of cards, blankets, and oral/skincare items.
Students also rotated through stations, including a Mural table where each student got one square of a giant mural to color, which will be displayed near the main office at Schafer. At the Blanket table, kids got to tie knots on a blanket donated to Phil’s Friends.
The Card station allowed students to color a card that will be given to Phil’s Friends, while at the Donation station, students sorted all the collected donated items into boxes by categories. Finally, at the Melted Snowman/Hot Chocolate snack station, students got to make a fun winter snack with graham crackers, marshmallows and icing.
What fun! Thank you to all our students and STARS Team members, including Andrea Highberger, for organizing this year’s STARS service project. Way to go, Sharks!
