On January 26, former North Elementary School social worker and current Illinois State Senator Karina Villa visited with students at North School. Senator Villa met with 3rd graders in Mrs. Giovannelli’s class, which has recently been learning about community members and their role in society.
“Students were excited to have a community member that serves in the state senate visit the class,” said Mrs. Giovannelli. “They felt important to have connected with a ‘famous person’ who was helping families of all kinds in our community.”
During her visit, Senator Villa shared with the students her love and passion for helping students and families at large. She used her experience at North School to connect with the students personally and explained her work in helping people in the community have their needs met.
Giovannelli was pleased to have Senator Villa return to North School.
“She was a great advocate for students during her tenure at North and continues to be a positive change agent on a much larger scale.”
