Congratulations to Margaret Gigous, a bilingual teacher at North Elementary School. Margaret was awarded the Marsha Santelli Award by the Illinois TESOL-Bilingual Education (ITBE.) ITBE is a professional, nonprofit organization that supports research and instruction in the teaching of standard English to speakers of other languages or dialects and in bilingual education.
Margaret was nominated for her demonstrated commitment and service to ITBE. “She is the reason our annual ITBE poetry contest exists,” said Maria Remigio, past president of ITBE. “She established this 19 years ago, and it is still very much alive.”
