Congratulations to Jackson 6th-grade Science Teacher Michelle LaBorn, who recently accepted a position as an Appointed Director on the Board of Directors for the National Middle-Level Science Teachers Association (NMLSTA), a division of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).
LaBorn will serve a three-year term, which will allow her to invest in others and give back to the science teacher community in the same way the community has supported her. “When you begin a career, everyone is doing all these things and big jobs while you are just figuring out how to get through the day,” she said. “Now is the time for me to share with others.”
As a division of NSTA, NLMSTA is devoted to middle school teachers. “Middle schoolers need different support from their teachers, and I hope to bring a different lens or perspective to the bimonthly professional development opportunities. Additionally, I will help lead new member drives at the general NSTA meeting.”
LaBorn said that in recent years, she has given greater thought to what she does, how she does it, and how she engages with others in her educational roles. “One thing that came out of my reflection was focusing on how I can more purposefully engage with the field of education and finding a role where I could give back to the whole.”
Congratulations, Michelle!
