Early Childhood Speech-Language Pathologist wins award

Congratulations to District 45 Early Childhood Center Speech-Language Pathologist Theresa Versaci, who recently received the 2024 Leadership Award from The Arc of Illinois.

Versaci was recognized for her volunteer contributions, which have significantly impacted the lives of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Recipients are selected based on their leadership efforts, which have inspired others and influenced positive change.

She serves as a board member and Advocacy & Policy chair for Supporting Illinois Brothers and Sisters, a nonprofit organization comprised of individuals who have siblings with disabilities,

“My younger sister has Down syndrome, so that’s how I became involved,” said Versaci. “We’ve worked a lot on helping people understand things like guardianship and helping to take care of their siblings as they age.”

Versaci also advocates a lot for the organization. “I want to see positive changes and live in a world where people with disabilities can raise their voices and live in communities where people are willing to listen.”

As a speech-language pathologist, Theresa said she’s always been driven to help people find their voice, whether through using devices to communicate or pictures or boards.

Others involved at Supporting Illinois Brothers and Sisters nominated her without her knowing. “It was a surprise, and I was excited. It was an honor to be recognized.”

Congratulations, Theresa!
