On March 22, our youngest learners at the Early Childhood Center participated in an Earth Flag Ceremony in the morning and afternoon sessions. Early Childhood Center Nurse Ruth Toyama and Principal Kelly Nettleton welcomed many special guests, including D45 Superintendent Dr. Tony Palmisano, Kay McKeen, founder & executive director at SCARCE, and DuPage County Board Members Paula Deacon Garcia, Elizabeth Chaplin, Sheila Rutledge, and Yeena Yoo.
Our Caterpillars earned their Earth Flag after completing several requirements that included completing one waste reduction activity. As a part of the ceremony, our Caterpillars sang a reduce, reuse, recycle song that they practiced in the weeks leading up to the ceremony. After the song, Ms. McKeen presented an Earth Flag to the Early Childhood Center and thanked students and staff for their dedication to preserving the environment.
SCARCE stands for School & Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education. SCARCE is dedicated to helping people discover how easy it can be to make a meaningful difference for kids, the environment, and our future.
