Students in Deb Daly’s multi-needs classroom at Jackson Middle School participated in music therapy with teacher Allyson Greenewald on Feb. 14.
“The kids absolutely love when Miss Allyson comes and does music therapy,” said Daly, a multi-needs special education teacher at Jackson. “I see the benefits of having them participate in music therapy. They are engaged and love participating in all of the activities.”
The therapy includes instrument play, singing, songwriting, dancing and more. Sessions work on various academic, social-emotional, communication, and fine and gross motor skills.
“All of the smiles on their faces are a telltale sign of how much fun and enjoyment they are having,” Daly said.
The music therapy program is being piloted twice monthly at Jackson and for STARS students at Jefferson Middle School.
